Venue & Cottages - in brief
Looking for something special ?
Valuable conversations and special social events are often best held in a space that is a bit out of the ordinary – away from the office, home or usual hotel – however nice they may be.
Tyddyn Retreat can offer you that something special – a range of spaces in beautifully converted traditional stone barns, surrounded by wonderful natural sights and sounds on our own land and immediately around us.
If you’re looking for a special self-catering holiday cottage or a venue that you’ll want to make your own... this is what you’ll find at Tyddyn Retreat in Mid Wales.
Between the Upper Barn and Lower Barn cottages, Summerhouse Cabin and bedrooms in the Farmhouse cottage, we can sleep 14 as singles and 23 as doubles. With the tipi, and futons in the workshop space, we are happy to welcome up to 30 residential guests. In addition there are camping spaces.
For an idea of the potential cost of your stay, please see our Booking & Prices page. Our guests find that, for couples you are treated to the luxury of your own stylish home, and for groups, the per person per night cost is especially good value.

Stylish self-catering holiday cottages in Mid Wales
In each cottage, converted from 250 year old barns, there is a large open studio or living area, with ceilings reaching high up to the roof, and light filling the space from the many windows. Details and extras in your rooms have been carefully chosen. If you have any particular needs, please just ask and we will do our best to have what you need ready for your arrival. Our Summerhouse cabin - deliciously peaceful, with views to the hills, and a veranda to soak up the evening sun or eat out under the stars. The same extraordinarily comfortable double futon sofabed as in the Upper Barn, is accompanied by a wardrobe, bookshelves and a beautiful hand painted washbasin - hand carried from Mexico to Wales! When you are sleeping here, you use the luxury steam shower and loo in the Guest Services Extension a few steps away.
Our tipi is for gatherings and a special sleeping experience for up to 4 people - or glamping for two in an antique French double daybed with luxury mattress and furniture to match. A fire pit in the centre and full matting with rugs, complete the environment in this ancient of structures, with contemporary comfort.
Farmhouse cottage accommodation
We also welcome guests into our own farmhouse cottage, where we offer two double bedrooms, including one en-suite. This is where we also offer our fully fitted contemporary kitchen for the use of guests, and dining as a larger group in the traditional farmhouse kitchen.
Additional local accommodation
Should you need accommodation for more than 13 people as singles, 20 as doubles, or 30 with our Tipi and shared workshop sleeping, our friends in Carno village and nearby can provide anything from B&Bs, to our local Aleppo pub, to the Cledan Valley Tipis, to the historic Maesmawr Hall Hotel. We are happy to introduce you.
The beauty of our land and the surroundings
Tyddyn Retreat is a tranquil haven, blessed with beautiful views in all directions. Two pretty meadows provide space for activities, conversation or quiet reflection - with natural group seating spaces and private hideaway resting places. Tall oak, ash and other indigenous trees are joined by planted features and flower gardens, and a magical ‘dingle’ with deep cuts streams and gentle waterfalls.
