Culture and history – with fun for all

Powis Castle, just outside Welshpool is a must for any visitors. Even those who have been before, return for the magnificent gardens. Great café and gift shop too.

King Arthur’s Labyrinth, at Corris nr Machylleth includes an underground trip in a boat through a waterfall, meeting all manner of myths and legends, and an opportunity to explore an amazing abandoned slate mine. Corris Craft Centre, a café and other gifts are also here.

Take a ride on the magical Welshpool and Llanfair Railway steam train ( through the lovely Banwy Valley. Run entirely by full-of-fun volunteers, there is a raft of special events throughout the year in addition to the regular timetable.

The Welsh language: we value and encourage the use of the Welsh language. The owner of the Centre is learning Welsh – loving it, and with quite a way to go!

  • We include bilingual signs and other Welsh in our communications – including key sections of this website
  • We love to help visitors to learn some Welsh
  • We will be running weekend workshops at the Tyddyn Retreat to learn the Welsh language.
